Written by Dewey Bunnell and originally recorded by the band America, it was the band's first and most successful single, released in early 1972. The song was often interpreted as a drug reference since the word "horse" was a commonslang term for "heroin".
Language Notes:
- ain't = informal contraction for am not; are not; is not has not; have not.
- "for to" give you = colloquialism, the preposition "for" is not used in correct English before an infinitive preceded by "to"
- ain't no one = the double negation is typical of informal, uneducated speech
